Preview
It’s been awhile since my last post but it’s good to be back for the second major of the 2008 season. It’s going to be another great US Open with the return of Tiger.
I am pleased to annouce a partnership with AimPoint Technologies. AimPoint Technologies is a company focused on the science of predictive putt technology and player performance analysis, with the goal of improving golf performance and educating golfers in both real and virtual worlds. In addition they have created a PGA Tour predictor which I will be using in my weekly PGA Tour previews for the remainder of the PGA Tour season. AimPoint PGA TOUR Picks show the top 20 players we pick to win based on a 6-week moving average of performance stats. While it is hard to predict the winner each week do to various anomolies, AimPoint PGA Tour Picks are a great indicator of who is likely to finish in the Top 10. And as such is a great way to help your fantasy golf team each week.
AimPoint PGA Tour Picks has picked the winner and runner up the last two weeks!

Tiger returns to play for the first time since his 2nd place finish at the Masters. Coming off knee surgery, Tiger is still the favorite to win, though I personally am not convinced that Tiger is a lock. The last time he took more then 2 months away from golf he missed the cut, at the 2006 US Open. I don’t think that will translate to a missed cut this week, but I do predict he’ll finish outside the Top 3. It’s hard to dismiss Tiger’s record at Torrey Pines (6 Buick Invitational wins in his career) but as we all know this course is going to play much more difficult then it does in January, especially with little to no “practice.” Tiger will contend but won’t win.
Something in my gut is telling me it will be a Phil US Open victory, in his hometown none the less. Like Tiger, Phil also has a history of winning here (2000 and 2001 Buick Invitational winner) but unlike Tiger is also playing well coming in, with a victory at the Crowne Plaza Invitational and a T20 finish at The Memorial. Bottom line, Phil gets the nod over Tiger this week, though I hope it’s not until the 72nd hole of a final group pairing.
Go Phil!
Won’t Win: Tiger
Will Win: Phil
Sleepers: Paul Casey, Ben Crane, Nick Dougherty

Who would have ever known? After surgery and 2 mos. layoff that Woods would
even be in it. I did expect more from Phil. And, who is Mediate? What a game!! It
was his for the taking. My opinion, Woods played terrible (shots, club selection…etc.)
even though he made shots when needed. I think the rest of the field played awful
missing opportunities to win! Westwood choked!! Hindsight is always 20/20.
Bill,
Great insight. I agree that Phil missed a golden opportunity. The stars were aligned for him to win in his hometown.
I had no confidence in Tiger and it bit me in my Yahoo! Golf league. I dropped from 2nd to 7th. Ouch! Still, it was a great
U.S. Open to watch.
I wonder now if Tiger will play the British.
