2007 Wachovia Championship Preview

It was nice to see Scott Verplank get a win at the Bryon Nelson last week. It was also nice to see Phil get a top 3 finish as the Players looms.
There is a strong field this week for the Wachovia Championship. The Wachovia is one of the newer events on tour, having started in 2003. Past champions here include David Toms, Joey Sindelar, Vijay Singh and 2006 champion Jim Furyk. Furyk beat Trevor Immelman in a playoff last season and will be among the favorites to win this year.
Of course this marks the return of Tiger, who has not played since a T2 finish at Augusta. Tiger has played this event twice, finishing T11 in 05 and T3 in 04. In 2007, Tiger’s worst finish is T22 in five events played. 24 of the Top 25 golfers in the world are in the field this week and it will certainly have a major feel. This will be a true test for Tiger (but I guess every week is a true test for Tiger).
Wachovia Championship
Quail Hollow Club - Charlotte, North Carolina

This is a tough field to predict. I have no gut feeling this week. Certainly Tiger, Phil and VJ should be mentioned as contenders. But instead of taking a wild guess like I do every week, I’m changing things up and asking the magic 8 ball. Afterall there is no science to picking who will win in golf, but maybe I’ve found the “magic” formula for predictions. I’ll just go down the odds list until we have a winner. Actual results below:
Will Tiger win the Wachovia Championship? Sorry: NO
Will Phil win the Wachovia Championship? Sorry: NO
Will VJ win the Wachovia Championship? Concentrate and ask Again
(Ohhhmmmmmm)
Will VJ win the Wachovia Championship? Concentrate and ask Again
Guess I didn’t concentrate hard enough the first time. (Nnnn Nnnn Nnnn Nnnn)
Will VJ win the Wachovia Championship? Better Not Tell You Now
8 Ball is holding out on me. What does this magic ball know? Is a call to Vegas in order?
WILL VJ WIN THE WACHOVIA CHAMPIONSHIP??!!! As I See it, Yes
So there it is. I like VJ to win this week. We shall soon see how magic this “magic 8 ball” is.
